Free skills assessment
You still have value. In ten minutes I’ll show you the five best ways to sell it.
I’m Terre Polite. I’m 65, and I’ve spent my career telling people what their experience is worth. Rate 40 skills. I’ll show you which five of the nine income paths your answers point to, and the scores behind each one.
We were told that if we played by the rules, we’d be rewarded.
Show up. Do the work. Stay loyal. Keep your skills current. My generation took that seriously, and we held up our end of it.
Now a lot of us are at this stage of life getting passed over and overlooked.
You’ve noticed the salary bands. You’ve noticed a phone screen going warm and then going quiet. You’ve noticed “overqualified” showing up in an email sent at three in the morning. You’ve started leaving the first ten years off your résumé.
Nobody will ever tell you it’s your age. They’ll tell you they went a different direction.
Your skills didn’t lose their value. You lost your buyer.
Reinvention isn’t starting over. It’s adding.
Addiction counseling. Vocational rehabilitation. Community mental health. Juvenile justice. I’ve owned my own businesses. I’ve traveled the world. I played by the rules, same as you.
I’ve also taught the skills themselves — résumé classes, life skills, communication, problem solving, teamwork, emotional intelligence. The forty skills in this assessment aren’t a list I found somewhere. They’re what I spent years teaching people to recognize in themselves.
Every one of those was a reinvention, and not one of them threw away what came before. Each one got built on top of it. I’ve spent my whole life reinventing myself, adding knowledge and value along the way.

I was twenty. Everything since got added on top of it. Nothing got taken away. That is what I want you to understand about your own history.
Across all of it I did the same thing — sat across from somebody the world had already made up its mind about, and found the part of them that was worth hiring. If I can find that in those histories, I can find it in yours.
And I’m 65. People treat me like I lost a step. I assure you I haven’t.
What you walk away with
Rate what you’ve actually done, not your job title. Paid work, military service, volunteering, caregiving, and running things nobody paid you to run all count.
Before you start
You’re not starting over. You’re adding.
Ten minutes and you’ll know which five paths your experience points to.
